F.A.T. = Focus

“To believe in the things you can see and touch is no belief at all – but to believe in the unseen is a triumph and a blessing.”
~
Abraham Lincoln

I had an amazing experience happen to me this week…I became a Grandma for the first time!  Little Noah James came into the world on January 8th and what a sacred little soul he is!  2012 was a rough year for many and I think we all breathed a sigh of relief when the clock turned to 2013 hoping easier times were on the way.  My little man came in at just the right time!

Throughout our lives, we see many things…some good and some not so good.  We tend to believe that what we see is what is real.  If we can touch it, taste it, hear it, and see it then that is our proof of its reality.  During my life, the most amazing experiences I have had have been “surreal.”  Synchronistic events that put me in the right place at the right time, a chance meeting with someone who seems to say just what you need to hear, smelling the scent of a loved one who has passed away making you wonder if they are near, and even the miraculous birth of child.

At this time, the most important job you have to do is focus on F.A.T.  No, I don’t mean the excess adipose tissue around your belly and behind.  I mean Feelings, Attention and Thoughts.  Just like the fat on your body keeps you warm, protects your organs and a certain amount of it is necessary for a healthy body, so follows that your feelings, thoughts and attention keep you warm, safe and spiritually healthy.

Your feelings are the physical manifestation of guidance from above.  We all have different beliefs about God and what is beyond this world we live in, but regardless of your beliefs, one thing we all have in common is that we all have feelings.  There are really only two feelings…good and bad.  The formula is simple.  Once you learn to listen to your feelings, you will know that anytime you feel good, you are moving in the right direction.  If you are feeling bad, you are off of your path.  Pause and either wait if you are not sure what to do or make a different choice.

Where we focus our attention is the exact thing that magnetizes people, places, things and situations into our lives.  Focus on the things that you want…focus on your dreams.  Stop beating the drum of “what is” and beat the drum of “what is possible.”

Your thoughts are in your control whether you believe that or not.  Focus on the thoughts that make you feel good.  Your thoughts are connected to your attention and where your attention is dictates how you feel.  Your brain does not work in a vacuum.  If you have a not so good thought, don’t just ignore it, replace it with one that is in alignment with where you want to go and what you want in your life.  Replace it with a thought that makes you feel better.

I challenge you to focus on F.A.T. and watch how your life begins to transform before your eyes.  Believe in what you cannot see.  What if there is a world just beyond ours where we can manifest what we want instantly, feel good all of the time and have a life of abundance, unconditional love and joy?  That world exists…you just haven’t created it yet.

“Environmentally” Sensitive Area

Sunday morning I decided to go on a hike.  For the last several weeks I have felt kicked around by life.  Every time I seem to turn a corner, another “opportunity for growth,” in the form of a major life disappointment seems to await me.  I feel as if I am letting everyone in my life down, failing at my business, failing as a Mom and a major loser when it comes to relationships.  I decided to have a conversation with God before I went on my hike.  It went something like this:

Hey God, it’s me, Chris (Ok, I know that is not original!).  I was wondering if you could do me a favor?  Lately I have been feeling kicked when I am down and very alone here in this fearful world.  I know my purpose and why you have put me here and I understand my road demands much more than the average person, but…can you cut me a little slack?  Can I have a small break?  A little breather maybe?  I am exhausted on every level and feel as if I am there for everyone but no one is there for me.  I feel very alone.  Can you send some help my way?  Throw me a bone?  In return I will, as always, be your channel.  Feel free to send through me any messages you feel the people whose paths I cross need to hear in whatever way they need to hear it.  I think that is a good deal, how about you?  You’re the best!  Amen.

So, off I went on my hike.  As I was walking the four mile round trip hike up Pinnacle Peak, I passed an area that said “environmentally sensitive area.”  If there had been a bench right there, I would have sat my sweaty, tired butt on it!  It seemed that area was made and named just for me.  Sensitive to say the least!

We have two environments in which we live:  external and internal.  Your external environment is everything you can experience with your five senses…your apparent “reality.”  Your internal environment is that which goes on inside of your head – your thoughts and feelings.  This internal environment also includes your psychic senses.  Yes, I said psychic.  We all have them…even you non-believers.  Intuition, visual, auditory and kinesthetic senses exist within us all.  We use them every day.  When we tend to be more sensitive in our external environment due to circumstances happening which we have no control, our internal environment takes over.

I don’t know about you but on a daily basis I choose to live according to my internal environment rather than my external one.  I choose to believe in synchronicity, guidance, signs, that I can create my own reality, answered prayers and that a higher power is watching over me and always by my side…no matter what.

We are currently in times where our external environment is in chaos.  Fear is running the show.  If we give into fear it pollutes our internal environment.  Take a moment today to “clean the air” in your internal environment.  De-pollute it by getting rid of negative thinking, self-depreciating thoughts, and a belief that it is unsafe to be yourself and to speak your truth, beliefs that some external force or person has power over you.  Set up your own filter…decide what you will allow in and what needs to go.

It’s ok to feel over-sensitive every once and awhile.  It keeps us on our toes and aware that there is some “cleaning house” that needs to be done.  Get out the broom and start sweeping…

Now where did I put my vacuum?

YOU Are the One You Have Been Waiting For

When I was a little girl, if I did something good, I got rewarded; if I did something bad, I was punished.  This is typical parenting of a young child to teach them right from wrong.  No harm done…or is there?

I find two extreme things that went wrong in our minds when this happened.  (Let me clarify that I am NOT saying we should not discipline our children here…I am just trying to prove a point.)

  1. Problem number one is that this behavior taught us that we got what we wanted in life only if we behaved well.  If I am a “good girl” I will get what I want, right?

What shows up in our lives as manifestations are not rewards for good behavior-manifestations are simply the effects of our thoughts and feelings; but we are taught the contrary.  We are taught that if we do something good, we will get something good and if we do something bad, something we want (or something that we define as “good”) will be withheld from us.  So, when we want something with all of our hearts and it doesn’t show up we immediately assume we must have done something “wrong.”  We must have been bad.  God is now punishing us for our “bad” behavior by not allowing us to have this thing we want.  Fire and brimstone here we come!

Now let me clarify that I am not saying to go out today and nickname yourself “Hell on Wheels” and paint the town red.  What you put out you get back.  Garbage in, garbage out.  But what is showing up in your life is a direct result of how you are thinking and what you are feeling…nothing else!  Like attracts like-it is the simple law of attraction.

  1. Problem number two is that everyone has a different definition of “good” and “bad.”  In American culture we are taught it is good to look someone who is an elder or of important status in the eye.  In the Zulu culture in South Africa, to look an elder or someone of status in the eye is disrespectful…it is bad.  Same action, two different perceptions.  How is one to know what is good or bad?  How about if you do something that is totally unique (yes, I am being glib here!)…define it for yourself.  What makes you feel good (what feels right)?  What is the best thing to say or do in this particular situation that will benefit everyone involved and not just yourself?

Your life is like a movie script.  You write it moment by moment.  You can design for yourself whatever you choose:  abundance, the perfect soul mate, the perfect job-you name it!  But, you constantly are limiting yourself to what you can create in your life by allowing fear to dictate your choices day in and day out.  YOU are the only one that is getting in your way!

Spend some time today and this week watching your focus.  Where are you beating yourself up?  Are you taking responsibility for what is showing up in your life or are you blaming someone else (or blaming God)?

This coming week has a focus on relationships; relationships with others but more importantly the relationship you have with yourself.  Are you constantly compromising your personal power for the sake of someone else?  Are there people or situations in your life that are no longer serving you?  Is it time to “clean house?”

Every relationship is a balance of power.  There is giving and receiving that occurs and if the scale is tipped ever so slightly in one direction, the relationship is not balanced and it is felt by both parties.

Take an inventory, an honest one, of the relationships you currently have in your life?  Are they balanced?

The only person who can change the relationships you are in is you.  YOU are the one you have been waiting for…you are your “knight in shining armor.”  Swoop in and save the day!  Have faith in yourself and in your Divine plan.  You knew what you were doing when you made it up in the heavens…trust me.

Da,da,da…da,da,da…da, da, da, da ,da (That is supposed to be a horse galloping…in case you were wondering.) 😉
